Four years ago, Yungblud gifted us with “Mars,” a song that transcends music to become a rallying cry for acceptance and understanding.
What makes “Mars” truly unique is how it seamlessly blends its powerful message with stunning, visceral visuals. The music video, with its cinematic intensity, isn’t just an accompaniment—it’s a vivid exploration of identity, pain, and hope. Through this video, Dom proved himself to be more than a musician; he’s a true visionary who knows how to translate emotions into art. On this special anniversary, let’s revisit “Mars” and the profound impact it continues to have on fans around the world.

Today marks the fourth anniversary of Mars, one of the most powerful anthems ever written and performed by Yungblud –  Dom Harrison.

What started of as a tribute to David Bowie’s Life on Mars quickly became something much more valuable.

After Dom met a trans girl in the U.S. in 2018, she shared her struggle with being accepted by her parents. She convinced them to attend one of his concerts, hoping they could see and feel the sense of love and acceptance she experienced in that space. This moving encounter became the foundation for Mars.

This song has also become a cornerstone for the BHC—a safe haven where fans feel understood and loved just as they are. There’s no need for pretense or masks; it’s a space where everyone can fully be themselves.

Behind the scenes

The Mars video highlights Dom’s incredible vision as an artist. He doesn’t just create; he commits to his ideas with fearless dedication, leading his vision to life with great care and consideration for all involved. Watching him bring this story to the screen is a true gift and a testament to his artistry.

It is hard to live in a world where insults are thrown at you for simply wanting to live your life as who you are meant to be, where every insult lands like a punch in your face. If you live through physical abuse, and bullying this video will hurt you, make you cry but in the end make you stand up and say I will live my life as me. I am strong enough. It is never easy but in having Dom and the BHC in your corner it makes it so much more bearable to try.

We have all felt irrelevant but none more so than the ones seen as “non-conforming to the usual stereotypes”, the trans kids, the members of the LGBTQIA, the disabled,  Mars is our anthem.

My Personal Experiences

I used to be heavily bullied in school, I have been kicked, made to trip, had my head smashed into a window, insults thrown at me, gum spat in my hair, physically hurt and mentally broken down. For years after leaving school whenever I heard people laughing I instantly assumed they were laughing about me.

What I wouldn’t have given to have had this song back then, to have the BHC, to have Dom in my life. It would have changed so much. But by having him in my heart now and the BHC in my daily life, I am finally healing of my past.

To me it is still hard to watch the video and not cry and not feel emotional. Just as much as it is impactful on Dom to perform it, the raw emotions take over and they should. This isn’t a song to make you feel comfortable but a rallying cry to stand up for yourself and others no matter the cost.

I am so grateful to have Dom in my life and to love him deeply. I am grateful for the BHC and their friendships. I finally no longer feel irrelevant.

The Lyrics

She was only 17
Had the saddest pair of eyes that you ever seen
Wore them lips in the cold, it was matching green
But she can’t be herself when she’s somebody else
In the morning, she would take her Mothers wedding ring
But school got pretty tough when they see it gleam
So she hid herself under the mezzanine, re-enacting scenes, yeah

She dreamed she’d go to California
There everyone would adore her
And all her mates will call her
‘Til four in the morning

Is there any life on Mars?
Is there any life on Mars?
Is there any life on Mars?
Yeah, yeah

Every morning she would wake up with another plan
Yeah, her Mum and Dad, they couldn’t understand
Why she couldn’t turn it off, become a better man
All this therapy
Eats away gently at the side of her mind that she never had
Yeah, this story told too many times, it makes me sad
I bet the author made a fortune on the autograph
Give her the money back ’cause

She dreamed she’d go to California
There everyone would adore her
And all her mates will call her
‘Til four in the morning

Is there any life on Mars?
Is there any life on Mars?
Is there any life on Mars?
Yeah, yeah

Is there any life on Mars?
Is there any life on Mars?
Is there any life on Mars?
Yeah, yeah

Do you feel like you’re irrelevant?
Do you feel like you’re irrelevant?
Do you feel like you’re just scared as fuck?
Do you feel like you’re irrelevant?
Do you feel like you’re irrelevant?
Do you feel like you’re just scared as fuck?

Is there any life on Mars?
Is there any life on Mars?
Is there any life on Mars?
Yeah, yeah

Is there any life on Mars?
Is there any life on Mars?
Is there any life on Mars?
Yeah, yeah

Is there any life on Mars?
Is there any life on Mars?
Is there any life on Mars?
Is there any life on Mars?
Is there any life on Mars?
Is there any life on Mars?

  1. Thank you so much for sharing all you have had to go through in your life Fabienne 🙏 I am so so sorry to hear that you have been through. It breaks my heart people did this to you 😥 I’ve been through a lot of the experiences you have. I’ve been head butted a few times for no reason over my life and so much more which I mention in my blog post.
Your amazing and loved Fabienne and I feel very lucky and honoured to know you and everyone in this group. I also wish I had this community in my life years ago, I was very alone when I was being bullied and assaulted… 🖤🩷
